Komen SF Bay Area is proud to partner with Black Women’s Health Imperative, Community Health Charities, Better Health East Bay, and Komen Northern and Central California in supporting the East Bay Breast Cancer Fund.
1 in 8 women have a chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. In the East Bay, Black, Hispanic and Asian women are dying at a higher rate from breast cancer despite advances in treatment and early diagnosis. HairToStay is the only national non-profit dedicated to providing financial support to patients who can’t afford scalp cooling. The HairToStay story began in February of 2010, when breast cancer surgeon and researcher Laura Esserman, MD, MBA and Director of the Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center at UC San Francisco wrote down the words “scalp cooling” on the back of a napkin at the Ferry Building restaurant in San Francisco and handed it to Bethany Hornthal.
